Change layer symbololgy

In Layer symbology, you can change the appearance of your line and polygon feature layers by adjusting the shape, color, and size of features in your layer. You can also apply additional options such as modifying elevation mode and displaying labels.

To open the Layer symbology pane, do the following:

  1. Verify you are signed in to the portal and open Scene Viewer.
  2. Click Modify scene Modify scene at the upper left of your screen to open the Designer.
  3. Open Layer symbology by clicking the layer name or by clicking the layer settings tool Layer settings tool and choosing Layer symbology.

Change symbols

In Symbols, you can choose between 2D and 3D symbols to best suit your scene. You will see the symbols of the layer when the scene was saved last and Original Symbols is selected by default. If it is a new scene, the original symbology of the layer is displayed.

2D line

To change the properties of 2D line symbols, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Symbols drop-down menu Drop-down and choose Change symbols so that Type displays 2D Line.
  2. For Size (px), enter the line size and choose a color.
  3. Set the transparency of the color by entering a percentage value in the color picker.
  4. Click Done.

3D path

To change the properties of 3D path symbols, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Symbols drop-down menu Drop-down and choose Change symbols so that Type displays 3D Path.
  2. For Size (meters), enter the diameter size and choose a color.
  3. Set the transparency of the color by entering a percentage value in the color picker.
  4. Click Done.

2D polygon

To change the properties of 2D polygon symbols, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Symbols drop-down menu Drop-down and choose Change symbols so that Type displays 2D Polygon.
  2. For Fill Color, change the fill color.
  3. Set the transparency of the color by entering a percentage value in the color picker.
  4. For Outline Size (px), enter the outline size and choose the outline color of the polygon.
  5. Set the transparency of the color by entering a percentage value in the color picker.
  6. Click Done.

3D extrusion

Modify the appearance of your polygon by extruding up or down based on a value you give it in meters.

  1. Click the Symbols drop-down menu Drop-down and choose Change symbols so that Type displays 3D Extrusion.
  2. For Fill Color, change the fill color.
  3. Set the transparency of the color by entering a percentage value in the color picker.
  4. For Extrusion (meters), enter a positive value in meters if you want the extrusion to go up vertically or a negative value if you want it to go down.
  5. Click Done.

Modify elevation mode

You can change the elevation mode to customize the positioning of your layers.

  1. Click the Elevation Mode drop-down menu Drop-down. Options appear that determine the vertical positioning of the layer and its data.
    • On the ground—Drapes the layer onto the ground.
    • Relative to ground—Positions the data aligned to the ground elevation. If an offset is applied, the layer is aligned to the ground.
    • Absolute height—Positions the data vertically based on the feature’s geometry z-value position. If the geometry doesn’t contain z-values, the default elevation is sea level.
    • <custom>—Positions the data vertically based on a custom elevation defined in the layer, such as from an attribute expression. The <custom> option is only visible when the layer has custom elevation.
    • Offset—Applies a positive or negative integer value in meters to vertically offset the elevation based on the chosen Elevation Mode.
      • Relative to ground—The layer is aligned to the ground and is vertically offset from the ground based on a height value entered.
      • Absolute height—The layer is aligned to the z-value position assigned or defaults to the sea level position, and is vertically offset based on a height value entered.
      Note:

The Offset option is not available for the On the ground elevation mode.

Apply labels

If labels are created for your layer, you will see a Labels toggle key. By clicking Labels in your scene, you can immediately convey information about the scene based on an attribute associated in the layer.
